Our Mission

The vision for SOS started several years ago in Wilmington N.C. when I noticed as an inner city elementary school art teacher and surfer that not many of my students had experienced surfing. State of Shaka developed as a chance to share my love of surfing, teaching and design. The goal of SOS was simple... sell t-shirts to offer local youth in need the opportunity to learn how to surf!  

Since its inception SOS has now grown to not only working with youth in need but has also recently partnered with several established surf charities.  The way it works is we use a percentage from each of our sales to help fund their surf camps and surf experiences.  We are excited to grow the mission of SOS and can’t wait to help those in need learn how to surf.  Surfing is often so much more than the experience of riding a wave, the healing power of the ocean is something we feel blessed to help share.  Thanks to everyone who has helped to keep this dream going!
